Steps to Organise tabs with Tabs group in Android
To get avail of this function, you must have the latest version of Chrome. Tabs group feature is already enabled and set as default in the newer versions of Chrome 88. If you don’t have the newer version, then you first need to update it.
By following these steps you can easily create a group of tabs on your Android:
- Open Chrome then, click on the tab switcher.
- Then click on the three dots on the top right corner of Chrome.
- After that, select group tabs.
- Select those tabs you want to group together.
- Then, select ‘group’.
Isn’t it so simple?
Likewise, you can also create a group of tabs and the individual tabs will remain unchanged. And if you want to add any other tab to the same group, then you just need to long-press the tab and drag and drop it to the group.
More on, if you are opening a new tab, and you want to group it with others, then just go to your desired group and press ‘+’. The tab you open will automatically save into the group.
Add an article to the group
If you want to add a particular article to the tabs group, you can do so by using the hyperlink of the article. For instance, you opened kapsnotes.com and want to save this article in your group. Then, just long-press on the article’s link. It will open up some options, from them, tap on ‘Open in a new tab in the group’. In this way, you can add one or more articles directly to your desired group.

Tabs group in desktop version of Chrome
Grouping tabs on a desktop is easier than grouping them on android.
- Just right-click on the tab you want to group and it will open up a list of options.
- Then, click on ‘Add tab to new group’.
- Give a name to your group, and you can set any colour of your choice as well. By giving them a specific colour, you can easily identify a particular group when you’ll have multiple ones.
You can change the name and colour of your group anytime. For doing so, just right-click on the group tab and change the name and choose another colour.
And for adding other tabs to the group on Desktop, right-click on the tab you want to add and then select ‘Add tab to group’. After this, a sub-menu will open, showing all the groups you have. Select your desired group from the list in which you want to add your tab.
Ungroup or Close tabs from the group
Un-grouping or closing tabs from the group is quite simple on the Desktop. For un-grouping tabs, right-click on the group tab and select ‘Ungroup’. And for closing a group, again right-click on the group tab and select ‘Close group’. You can also remove a particular tab from the group. Right-click on the tab and select ‘Remove from group’. It will not close the tab entirely, it will just remove the tab from the group.
You can ungroup any tab on Android, by a long press on a tab and dragging it to the ‘Remove from group’ section. In this way, you can remove any tab from the group, but this will not close the tab entirely. You can access the removed tab in the tabs switcher.
Chrome always shows an Undo pop up to re-open the tabs or groups that are closed mistakenly. This pop up is visible for 5 seconds and if you want to restore your tabs, then click on it.
