Over-the-top media services, or OTT platforms, are now widely popular in India. These platforms provide media streaming services directly to viewers via the Internet. The OTT market has boomed in the past few years, especially during the COVID-19 outbreak in the country, and many filmmakers are now releasing their movies on OTT. Many domestic and international players have entered the market with exclusive content, features, and deals.  

The most prominent OTT subscriptions now provide access to both older and original material, including several of the greatest movies and TV programs of all time. With that in mind, we’re going to look at some of the most popular yearly subscriptions OTT plans on the market, including Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, Hotstar, and Sony Liv, to see what each platform offers to their consumers. Here is a price comparison of the top OTT platforms in India.

Netflix  

It has created many original shows of its own, like You, Riverdale, Lucifer, etc., along with several original Indian shows and films like Sacred Games, Delhi Crime, Ray, AK versus AK, Bulbul, and many more. Netflix is one of the most prominent OTT platforms in the nation.  

There have also been a handful of Bollywood premieres, including AK versus AK, Class of ’83, and Bulbul. It has also shown several famous foreign programs, including BBC One’s a Suitable Boy, Bravo’s Dirty John, You, Riverdale, Lucifer, Penny Dreadful, and others. The platform is also known for its stellar originals that are highly commendable. Also, it does not contain much Indian content.

Prime Video 

Amazon Prime membership is probably one of the best OTT platform offerings from the e-commerce giant. It is the only subscription that comes with OTT services along with a bouquet of other benefits like access to Prime-exclusive deals on Amazon shopping, Prime Music subscription, free express delivery, discounted prices, and more. Prime membership gives a Prime video subscription and a whole lot of savings and goodies.  

Original programs like Paatal Lok and Mirzapur, light-hearted dramas like Panchayat, and Bollywood blockbusters like Shakuntala Devi are also available on Prime Video. You may also watch internationally renowned series like The Expanse, Fleabag, Killing Eve, The Good Wife, Grand Tour, and, more recently, Clarkson’s Farm.

It boasts successful reality programs like MasterChef Australia, as well as worldwide hits like Patrick Melrose, Little Fires Everywhere, and the recently ended Game of Thrones. The platform also offers the complete Disney line-up to Indian viewers.

Zee5 

Zee5 offers a plethora of shows and movies in up to 13 different languages. It is also making exclusive original content and streaming some of the latest movies.  

It now has millions of users, and the number is growing at an undetermined rate, as it’s continuously adding updated content for its users to binge on. Voot

Voot, another domestic player, has just been updated with a plethora of the latest programs and original programming. Its original show, Asur, was a big hit, and other popular shows on the Viacom18 network, such as Bigg Boss, are trending on the platform. Voot currently offers only a yearly subscription plan, but a special offer is being provided.

SonyLiv 

Sony LIV is one of the best Indian OTT platforms for the Indian audiences. It features various shows and content from the Sony network. The platform offers 3 plans, including a free plan that provides access to popular shows like The Kapil Sharma Show, Tarak Mehta Ka Oolta Chashma, and more. The other two plans are the Premium plan which offers access to SonyLiv titles such as Scam 1992, Sony and SAB TV shows at TV time, movies, Hollywood TV shows, and a wide range of sports content from TEN Sports live TV, and the UFC, the UEFA Champions League and other sporting events.  

The WWE Network plan offers access to specially curated WWE events, NXT, and PPVs, unrestricted access to the entire WWE library along with exclusive WWE series, documentaries, and biographies.

Jio Cinema

JioCinema is an OTT platform introduced by Reliance Group. It provides you with an abundance of content in HD quality with low data usage, which ultimately streams your movies without buffering.  

JioCinema has a buying power of about 250 million subscribers who have a digital world that has thousands and thousands of hours worth of content at their disposal. JioCinema online is a binge-watch hole. No matter where you are and what you want to watch, it will offer you abundant content in many language options.  

The content on this platform is aggregated from many different movie streaming platforms and Jio partners like ALT Balaji, Eros now, Sony, Paramount Pictures, Zee Entertainment, and so o  

Unlike amazon prime, Netflix, Hotstar, etc., Jio Cinema is part of an umbrella content service provider known as Reliance Jio. It is the sibling service of Jio Music, so to say. So, if someone is a part of the JioCinema Parent network and uses it, they can easily access the Jio cinema with their mobile number.  

So, no matter where you are or which device you are using, all you have to do is put in your Jio number and an OTP, and you are sorted. All it will take is your Jio Id and Password with your Jio Sim to stream and enjoy your videos.  

However, the content gets limited if you are not a Jio user. Honestly, at present, the options are quite overwhelming; even if you are using the plan of 149 a month, you will get access to Jio cinema. It is one of the best OTT platforms.

Airtel Xtreme 

Airtel has launched an OTT platform, Xstream Premium. With this service, users will get over 15 different OTT streaming services that they can access in one app. It will be exclusively available to Airtel customers. The service is, of course, not free, and one will be required to spend money on the subscription.

The monthly price of the Airtel Xstream Premium is Rs 149, and the annual membership will cost you Rs 1,499. Airtel says dozens of OTT entertainment app options are available for users. However, customers end up managing multiple apps and subscriptions simultaneously. So, it decided to offer its customers a service that can offer content from different platforms in one place with a single subscription.

“It offers a great experience with a single app, single subscription, single sign-in, unified content search, and AI-driven personalized curation for each user,” the telecom operator said. The Airtel Xstream Premium service will be accessible across mobiles, tablets, and laptops through the app or web and on TV through the Xstream set-top box.

The company claims that the new service features over 10,500 movies, shows, and live channels from SonyLIV, Eros Now, Lionsgate Play, Hoichoi, Manorama Max, Shemaroo, Ultra, Hungama Play, EPICon, Docubay, DivoTV, Klikk, Nammaflix, Tollywood, and Shorts TV.
